The Boston Children’s Museum

The Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museums in the world. Emphasizing hands-on play to spark children’s natural curiosity, the museum’s exhibits are designed to develop foundational skills and an appreciation of the world. The museum nurtures the whole child through programs in science, culture, health, and the environment.

Partnering with the Lynch Foundation

Recognizing the critical importance of a child’s first three years of development, Carolyn and Peter saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the Museum’s programming with the creation of the Carolyn and Peter Lynch Early Learning Gallery in 2007.  The new gallery was created in partnership with innovators at MIT and houses the museum’s first ever space designed specifically for the museum’s youngest visitors ages 0-3  to explore, experiment, and imagine.

This gift was part of the museum’s largest capital campaign to expand and renovate the museum to serve more families, especially in the very early developmental years. The campaign exceeded its goal and its achievements included:

  • 23,000 square foot expansion
  • Improved and expanded office, storage, and retail space
  • Landscaped a block-long park for outdoor programming and implemented water access
  • Became first LEED certified museum in Boston

In addition to these capital investments, the foundation is proud to continue its support of the Museum annually.
